Can Pastors Give Unbiased Christian Marriage Advice?

by katie on December 20, 2009

When you think about Christian marriage advice you tend to think in terms of a pastor, reverend, or whatever term you use to describe a spiritual figure head.  Sometimes you think they might only give advice based on only what the bible says but they themselves are sometimes married and can give you real world Christian marriage advice as well.

Biased or Unbiased

When a pastor, reverend, etc. decides that they want to dedicate their lives to god they do so feeling as if they have a calling.  The calling is to help others learn about god and do what god wants them to do.  This also includes giving them Christian marriage advice to show them what god requires as well as what each person is expected to do in the marriage.  The pastor will normally give them free marriage advice and not charge them for the time they spend with him or her.  This is because as a person of god this is within their duties to help their congregation to be better people and to learn the ways of god.  As they are giving Christian advice they are also helping their congregation to lead better lives as wives and husbands by helping them learn their roles.  For example, a husband might feel that his wife is supposed to obey them at all costs and although the bible says this in so many words it is not to be taken as if the man dominates his wife to the point of being afraid of him.  A pastor would bring this out to his congregation by helping them understand the true meaning of the bible when it comes to marriage by giving them all aspects of Christian marriage advice.

A pastor is under obligation to serve god but as we have seen, some of them do not follow in this path.  Christian marriage advice should be given by a pastor who truly has god in their heart and they live a life that can be reflected highly upon.  I don’t think that anyone would accept their Christian marriage advice if this wasn’t the case.  Any Christian marriage advice, whether it is from your pastor, friend, or a family member, should not be taken at face value.  This means that you should not just follow their advice without making sure it is the right advice for your situation.  Sometimes someone can give you advice based on what they would do but you need to follow advice based on what you would do.
