One way to develop your child’s creativity and to improve his or her motor skills is to engage him or her in art works and handicrafts. Teaching your child how to make valentine greeting cards from scratch for instance can be a good activity for your toddler. Of course you cannot expect that your three year old son or daughter will come up with some really stunning valentine greeting cards but the whole activity can be quite stimulating for him or her. Besides, cutting and pasting colored papers can be a good bonding activity for you and your child.
Getting Started
Teaching your child how to make valentine greeting cards is relatively easy. For starters, you need to buy some colored papers, ribbons, non-toxic coloring materials, some paste and a pair of blunt tipped scissors. Blunt tippled scissors are safer to use for kids than those pairs of scissors with pointed ends. Aside from buying papers, coloring materials and the likes, you may also buy some of those decorative paper punchers that produce animal shapes, flowers and others. You can easily find plenty of decorative paper punchers in your favorite office supplies store.
Once you have all your materials ready, clear an area in your kid’s playroom and set your materials on the floor. Working on the floor with your little one is better that working with him or her on a table. Remember that little children love to wiggle around while doing something and they might topple off their perch if you leave them on their own even for just a couple of minutes. To avoid accidents while working with your kid on some valentine greeting cards, you might as well set everything on the floor. This way, your little one can move around more freely.
After setting up your working area, you may now wall your little boy or girl and tell him or her that you will make sure valentine greeting cards. Tell your child a story about Valentines Day so that he or she will have some ideas as to why you need to make valentine greeting cards. Yes, your little one will probably not be able to grasp the significance of the Valentines Day yet but he or she will definitely relish in the idea of cutting papers and pasting things up to make some colorful and funny valentine cards. In fact, once you get started, you little one may not want to stop at all.
