There is an ongoing battle for equality, particularly among heterosexual and homosexual
couples. There has been a lot of progress because there are now many places around the world where gay weddings are legal. However there are still many parts of the U.S. and other countries around the world that oppose gay marriage and where it’s not legal. This can make things very problematic and drives a lot of same sex couples away from getting married.
Gay weddings are legal in Canada and Mexico. Connecticut, District of Columbia, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont are all states in the US which allow for gay weddings as well. However, considering that there are fifty states this is a pretty low percentage of locations where gay weddings are actually legal. Europe has more places that allow for gay weddings than anywhere else in the world.
Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Sweden and Switzerland are just a few examples of the different places that a same sex couple could go to if they wanted to get married. There are always new laws being passed and new countries that are lifting the ban on same sex marriages. This is why it’s so important for same sex couples to keep an eye on the news and watch out for different laws coming into effect. There are also a lot of different protests and meetings that same sex couples could be attending to fight against the ban on same sex marriages.
We always hear celebrities talking about gay marriage and what it means to them. It’s California’s amendment to ban same sex marriages and if it’s passed now, even those same sex couples who were already married will not be considered so. California is one of the most controversial states when it comes to gay weddings. It’s important to have equality and gay weddings should be no less important than heterosexual weddings.
Everyone has their own point of view but for homosexual couples wishing to marry, it can be extremely frustrating and disappointing if they’re unable to in their hometown. Often they want to have their wedding in their hometown but can’t. Then it’s either a matter of waiting and hoping that a bill will be passed or choosing to travel elsewhere to get married. Gay weddings are beautiful and hopefully soon will be on the same level.
